KENNETH C. GREEN is the founding director of The Campus Computing Project , the largest continuing study of the role of information technology in American colleges and universities. The project is widely cited by both campus officials and corporate executives as the definitive source for information about information technology issues affecting American higher education. Green is also visiting scholar at School of Educational Studies of The Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California.

Green is the author/co-author or editor of a dozen books and published research reports and more than three dozen articles that have appeared in academic journals and professional publications. He is often quoted on higher education, information technology, and labor market issues in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and other print and broadcast media. Now in its fifth year, DIGITAL TWEED, Green's monthly column on technology and higher education issues, appears in Campus Technology Magazine.

Dr. Green is an invited speaker at some two dozen academic conferences and professional meetings each year. Additionally, he was the co-executive producer and on-air host of the award-winning Ready2Net programs, a series of satellite broadcasts and Webcasts focused on the challenges and opportunities that information technology presents to American higher education (www.ready2net.net).

In October 2002, Green received the first EDUCAUSE Award for Leadership in Public Policy and Practice. The award cites his work in creating The Campus Computing Project and recognizes his "prominence in the arena of national and international technology agendas, and the linking of higher education to those agendas."

 

Carl Berger
Professor and Dean Emeritus, University of Michigan

Carl is Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Michigan, School of Education. He is the Apple Digital Campus Research Fellow for Apple, Inc.

Carl was the Director of Advanced Academic Technologies in the Collaboratory for Advanced Research and Academic Technologies (CARAT) in the Provost's Office since its inception in 1995 through 2005. Prior to that he was a professor at the University for over 33 years and associate dean and dean from 1979 through 1988.

Research projects include design and evaluation on the CoLabNet Project, CARAT/Rackham fellowship evaluation. He is the major designer and analyst of the Surveys of Information Technology Use by Faculty and Students at the University for over 20 years. In addition to work on evaluation and assessment of student and faculty use of technology, he works on displaying research data in colorful graphic and network forms for ease of analysis and decision making.

Professional activies include member of the advisory board of MERLOT , former Chairman of the Board of IMS Global Learning Consortium, from its inception in 1995 to 2004, member of the board of directors of the New Media Centers from 1994 to 1998 and member of EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research, The EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching.

He was awarded the National Association for Research in Science Teaching Distinguished Service Award in 1996, the EDUCAUSE Leadership in Information Technology Award in 2001, the MERLOT Distinguished Service Award in 2003, and In June 2006 he was named the New Media Consortium Fellow for outstanding lifetime achievement.

 

Michael Ossipoff
Director of Capability, Telstra

Michael Ossipoff joined Telstra in October 1999. He is currently Telstra's Director of Capability. This operating unit is tasked with taking the entire Telstra product and service portfolio and bringing it to life in the minds of their corporate clients. The role is responsible for explaining and interpreting the implications of new technology trends and developments so that their customers can best prepare themselves to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Michael has also held positions of Director of iVelocity, a 3.5 billion dollar start up business inside Telstra. He has also held the role of Director of Corporate Marketing, responsible for the entire marketing business plan, strategy and tactics.

Prior to Telstra, Michael was Managing Director of Sun Microsystems Software Business, oining after his Dot Com business, Net Dynamics was acquired by Sun. He also worked as Marketing and Sales Director at IBM / Lotus Software and has held international sales and marketing positions with Hewlett-Packard and NCR.

Michael brings over 18 years experience in the IT sector. His perspectives and experiences come from both a major corporate and start up company basis, mixed with his sales and marketing background, as well as his insight from operating his own marketing research company.

 

Nick Tate
Director, ITS, University of Queensland

Nick is both Director of Information Technology Services at The University of Queensland and the Director of Australia’s National CERT, AusCERT (The Australian Computer Emergency Response Team), which is based at the University.

He is also a Director of Higher Ed Services Pty Ltd, a Director of AARNet Pty Ltd, Chair of the Queensland Regional Network Organisation (QRNO), President of the Academic Board of the International Systems Security Professional Certification Scheme (ISSPCS), Chairman of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) in Queensland and a member of the executive and former Chair of the Council of Australian University Directors of IT (CAUDIT).

Nick was the project lead/chief investigator of the Grangenet and DCITA funded CAUDIT PKI project, and currently leads the DEST funded MAPS (Middleware Action Plan and Strategy), eSecurity framework and Australian Access Federation (AAF) projects.

Prior to joining the university, Nick worked as an IT professional in Investment Banking for 20 years, the first 18 of which were spent in London. He emigrated to Australia in 1997, where he became Technology Services Director at Macquarie Bank, based in Sydney. During his time in London, he worked with the United Bank of Kuwait for over 10 years and was Head of IT during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in the first Gulf war when there was a run on the bank and many strange requests from Baghdad! He has also worked in the defence industry as a Weapons Systems Engineer developing anti-missile missile systems for Royal Navy Warships.

Nick holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and a Master’s degree in Computer Science and is also a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered IT Professional, a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. He has over 32 years experience in IT, with more than a decade at CIO level.

In addition to his work in IT, Nick was awarded a Royal Naval Flying Scholarship whilst at school, was a pilot in the University Air Squadron/Royal Air force Volunteer Reserve, whilst at University and was a Borough Councillor (British equivalent of a City Councillor) for five years in the 1980s. Whilst he was a councillor, he chaired the health and highways committees for the council.
