Reports from Past Events

DevWorld 2008

I attended DevWorld 2008 not knowing what to expect out of it. I knew that there were lectures that were to cater for different levels of programmers however I didn't know if this would help me much as my background in programming was strictly C and C++. I hadn't touched 'XCode' until 2 days before the conference as I had to install it off my leopard disc.

When I attended the conference the first lecture in session 1 did exactly what it said it was going to do, introduce XCode. This lecture was a massive eye opener and the enlightenment didn't stop as this was followed by objective c basics, user interface design, how to use instruments and finally how to develop for the iPhone.

While, the above courses didn't turn me into a professional mac developer overnight, they have given me interest in the field so that now I am teaching myself. I recently purchased a copy of Aaron Hillegass's "Cocoa Programming for MacOSX" and am reading and working through quite quickly.
I am very happy that I attended DevWorld 2008, the amount of knowledge that was gained, and the ability to talk to others that also program for the mac platform was inspirational. I eagerly await the next apple conference.

Note: Found it really funny that basically the only phone that was present at the conference was the iPhone, if you didn't have one you would be embarrassed to take it out.
