Resources

The AUC has a number of resources it uses to ensure that members are kept informed, projects are driven to ensure a successful outcome and that the AUC as a whole is moving forward into the new millenium.

Classroom In A Box

The AUC has two 'Classrooms In A Box' which are portable classrooms consisting of laptop computers running Mac OS X and an Airport Base Station to facilitate wireless network connectivity. AUC members can borrow either CIAB for events such as training, conferences, workshops, etc. The AUC however has first priority with regards to their use for its own programs.

Seeding Equipment

The AUC often makes available some new Apple technology for short term loan to member Universities to investigate, test and experiment with. The loan perods are short term (2-3 weeks maximum) and equipment must be returned promptly as usually there are others waiting.

In the past Seeding Equipment has included: an Xserve, iPod videos, Airport Express, Mac mini's and more.

HD Editing Suite

The AUC has established as part of its resources an HD Editing Suite aimed at promoting the adoption and use of HD Digital Recording in the Higher Education Sector. The equipment is for University staff to trial and use for testing and evaluation purposes. These items are for short term loan (maximum of a month) only and are not intended to be used for commercial purposes.

Marratech E-Meetings 

The Marratech Work Environment helps groups of people to communicate, collaborate and manage information from their computers. It gives users a secure environment where members can talk with high voice quality, share information, pictures, MS Office documents and see each other.

AUC Programs Manager

The AUC Programs Manager (Executive Officer) is a 100% resource for the AUC. Working out of the University of Wollongong, the position manages the day-to-day activities of the AUC as well as managing various AUC projects including the web site and mailing lists. Working with the varies AUC committee's to ensure that outcomes are met is an important part of the role.

The position reports directly to the AUC Executive and is funded by the AUC on an annual basis with Apple Australia providing support to enable the position to function effectively.

AUC Web Site

The AUC operates this web site on a Xserve G4 server running Mac OS X 10.3 Server. The computer is hosted by the University of Wollongong who provide internet access as well as backup and maintenance for the server.

If you would like to place a web page or some other AUC related information on the web site please contact the AUC Programs Manager.

AUC Mailing Lists

The AUC operates 2 mailing lists which are the primary methods of communicating between members. The lists are:

  • AUC Operations List
    This list contains all the main AUC contacts on each campus.
  • AUDF Co-ordinators List
    This list contains all the local AUDF Co-ordinators on each campus.

Both these lists are 'closed' to the general internet community to prevent unwanted email. Contact the AUC Programs Manager if you feel you should be on one or both of these lists.

UniMacTech Mailing List

The AUC operates a mailing list to assist Technical Support staff from Universities around Australia discuss issues, seek assistance and find solutions when using Macintosh computers in Higher-Education. The University Macintosh Technical Forum (UniMacTech) is an e-mail mailing list which members can post questions to, discuss issues such as lab management, software licensing and find solutions to common issues, especially those with Mac OS X.

A number of key Apple Australia technical staff have agreed to monitor the list and where appropriate provide information and feedback to the forum. This forum is not an official Apple Australia support channel and responses from Apple staff are on an informal basis only.

AUC/Higher-Education Newsletter

The AUC publishes an email each month which is full of useful infromation about AUC events and Higher-Education sector in Australia. The newsletter includes information on the latest Apple products as well as links to varies research and teaching activities using Apple computers.
