Is there a reason you're using NetInstall to push out monolithic
images rather than NetRestore?

I've seen exactly the same problem with 10.4.11 and certain MacBook
Pro models, but we moved the deployment method to NetRestore at about
the same time for other reasons, so I never actually hunted down what
was causing it.

I've never understood using NetInstall for pushing out a single image
without package customization. You end up with a read-only image
inside a read-only image inside an .nbi, and it's really hard to
maintain.

NetRestore on the other hand truly separates your .nbi you boot from
and the dmgs that you restore onto clients, which is a lot easier to
maintain.
