[UniMacTech] 10.5.2 Leopard Server Netboot issue

we found the same problem until we had the ports checked. The netboot server
and the client had to be on the same subnet. If you have DHCP snooping
turned on it breaks the DHCP connection and if you have ARP inspection
turned on it will also break it. So get your networks guys to turn these two
off and test it to see if it will work.

Subject: [UniMacTech] 10.5.2 Leopard Server Netboot issue

Hi All

I'm wondering if anyone out there has had success with Netboot from 10.5.2
Server. If you have, some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I running Netboot from a 2.4Ghz Xserve which shipped with Leopard. I have
created the universal .nbi files using both System image utility and
Netrestore 3.4.3.
On the client machine I can select the netboot image from the startup disk
selection is sys prefs. However, when the client machine boots it only gets
as far as the blinking globe and eventually gives up in disgust and
continues to boot from the internal HD.

I have tested the .nbi files from an older Xserve running 10.4.10 and they
successfully boot the client computer. So it must have something to do with
either the server config or Netboot on 10.5.2.

I have looked at Apple Discussions pages and Bombich forum to see if other
users are experiencing the same issue and some are, but in so far no
solutions.

The following is the netboot log from the server, perhaps someone could
point something out that I'm missing and get me bootin' along. I have bolded
the lines I think are a relevant to the issue but have gotten stuck.
/etc/bootptab does not exist on the server There is only bootpd.plist. Some
thing that stumps me is why the log shows a reply to 0.0.0.0 IP when from
the log the server clearly is establishing a communication with the client
when the boot selection is made from sys pref, but the client boot process
begins communication is lost.

As a note: IP filtering is not enabled for netboot and no machine
limitations have been put into the .nbi. DHCP is not running from the
netboot server, another server at the uni is responsible for DHCP.

Some insights and assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.
