[UniMacTech] OT: looking for a simple discussion forum with email notifications

I've used SimpleForum Lite ( http://simpleforum.net/index.cgi?page=preview )

And one called miniBB ( http://www.minibb.com/ )

Both should do what you want.

you could also just switch off the features you don't need on standard 
forum software such as phpBB
