[UniMacTech] connecting a SUN (Storagetech) SAN to an xserve via fibre channel?

we have a Sun StorageTech SAN that is managed by a Sun server.

the administrator of this server has allocated a area of the SAN as a
(unformated) partition for our xServe to use as a volume.

be that as it may according to our unix system admin plugging the
fibre channel cable in to the xServe and the other end in to the
StorageTech SAN should result in the xServe detecting the partition as
an unformatted disk (much the same way that plugging in an unformatted
FireWire disk does).
however I'm not seeing this nor am I seeing a disk partition preenting
it's self in Disk Utilities.

any ideas? suggestions?

plugging the Apple supplied fibre channel cable in to the SAN.....

I get the following on the xServe's Fibre Channel system preferences
using automatic:

Port 0, link established
a wwnn: 20:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7C
and a wwpn: 10:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7C

Port 1, no link established
and wwnn: 20:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7D
and a wwpn: 10:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7D

going in to system profiler I get the following:

Fibre Channel Domain 0:

Vendor:	LSILogic
   Product:	LSI7204EP
   Revision:	Firmware 1.3.20.0
   Bus:	PCI
   Slot:	Slot-1
   Initiator Identifier:	126
   Node World Wide Name:	20:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7D
   Port World Wide Name:	10:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7D
   Description:	Port 1
   Speed:	Automatic
   Topology:	Point-to-Point
   Status:	No Link Established

Fibre Channel Domain 1:

   Vendor:	LSILogic
   Product:	LSI7204EP
   Revision:	Firmware 1.3.20.0
   Bus:	PCI
   Slot:	Slot-1
   Initiator Identifier:	126
   Node World Wide Name:	20:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7C
   Port World Wide Name:	10:00:00:06:2B:13:BC:7C
   Address Identifier:	00:00:EF
   Description:	Port 0
   Speed:	Automatic (4 Gigabit)
   Topology:	Automatic (Arbitrated Loop)
   Status:	Link Established
   Cable Type:	Active Copper

which is interesting port numbers don't correspond to fibre channel
domains (using the NNWN and PWWN then port 0 = domain 1 and port 1 =
domain 0..... did some one head hunted from Microsoft write this part?)
