Hi Peter,

I'm unsure what version of Samba is included with 10.5.7 server, but  
it sounds like similar problems with our Samba server running on  
Linux. It was a bug fixed in a relatively recent version. See https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4308 
  for more info. You can save a bit of time by reading comment #48  
onwards.
