I was contacted by our Higher Education Account Manager last week to advise on these changes. Most universities in Qld would have been advised by now. Don't know about the other states.
Apparently Australia has been different from the rest of the world with the warranty. The one thing I was told is that Apple may be changing their prices to fluctuate with changes between the US and Australian dollar. That's good if our dollar is high but...
Also, I was informed that any current equipment warranty will continue under the current arrangement. Any equipment bought between now and 31 August will be still on the current warranty until the date of purchase in 2012.
We have a good relationship with a local Apple Repair centre that has taken some time to build. The on-site repairs will be a bonus for equipment that is still operational and the operator cannot be without their Mac. Any campus within 80km of an Apple service provider will be covered.
Find out who was contacted in your university and get all the information from them. Otherwise, contact your State Apple Higher Education Account Manager.
