Just out of curiosity I’m wondering if anyone knows of a database that lists which discs are appropriate for which hardware?<BR>
<BR>
Our department over the years has collected quite a few install discs and hardware tests, but they aren’t always labelled.<BR>
<BR>
The only real information they have on them is the year (sometimes) and the model (eg iMacG5) - but I’ve found that this disk won’t work for every 2005 iMac I’ve encountered. <BR>
<BR>
There is a disc number eg: 2Z691-5310-A and I thought maybe this corresponds to a particular hardware somehow? <BR>
<BR>
Any ideas?<BR>

Make sure that you are using the exact same install disks that came with the machine. They sometimes have a small difference to a similar boot disk of another machine.<BR>
If you get a “kernel panic” screen when trying to boot or install, then you are trying to boot from an incorrect disk.<BR>
