We think that this issue has to do with launchd as it seems to be effecting processes that are controlled by it.<BR>

I had a similar problem earlier and found that turning off automatic software update and automatic shadowing on the software update server settings in Server Admin fixed it. This was a 10.4 box but it had a similar symptom. Have you tried that?<BR>
